Decluttering Tips and Resources for Your Spring Cleaning

Experts agree that having a cluttered and dirty space is bad for your mental health. That is why it is important to bring in the spring with a good decluttering and cleaning routine.

Here are a few tips to help you get your spring started right.

Create a Goal

Before jumping in on a project, determine and set a realistic goal. Figure out what is most important and work toward conquering that first. Is your home office important or the kitchen? What area is causing you the most stress? Once you hone in on one area, focus your goal a bit more. Determine what needs decluttering, organizing, and cleaning, and go from there.

Don’t Store Things

Many people use their homes as a storage unit, and this is one of the worst things you can do. Don’t store clutter; reduce it so you have less to clean. You only have a finite amount of space, whether it’s in a closet or a bathroom. Store items wisely and cut clutter ruthlessly.

Start Small

You may want to get your entire home organized, but it is better to start with a small area. Pick a closet or a cupboard and reduce the stuff in this space. It will help motivate you to pick a different space every day to work through.

Be Reasonable

While you will want to get everything done, set a reasonable goal. Consider the amount of time that you have and the project you want to work on. Then, effectively devise a plan for getting it done. You can likely do a drawer or cupboard a night, but attempting to do an entire room will overwhelm you.

Get the Family to Help on the Weekend

If you have a big project like the living room, kitchen, or garage, plan a weekend with the family to help. The best way to get a large space decluttered and organized is to enlist some help and make a day of it. Plan some treats and get any supplies organized.

Many hands will make this project lighter, and enlisting your family to help with it will make it easier to keep organized. Your family will respect the clean space because they helped clean it.

Spring is the perfect time to declutter your home. By making realistic goals, working on one space at a time, and encouraging your family to participate, your home will be decluttered in no time. As a bonus, it will be easier to keep it that way.
